All students must be immunized against certain diseases or must present a certificate signed by a doctor stating that for medical reasons, the student should not be immunized. Proof of immunization may be personal records by a licensed physician or public health clinic with a signature or rubber stamp validation. Students who do not present current health/immunization documentation within 30 calendar days of enrollment may be withdrawn. A listing of required vaccinations may be found on the Texas Department of State Health Services website.
Texas state law requires every student be compliant and up to date on all immunizations. All immunizations should be completed by the first date of attendance. A student may be enrolled provisionally if their immunization record indicates they have received at least one dose of each vaccine required by this law.
To remain enrolled, the student must receive the state required immunizations. Your campus attendance clerk will review the immunization status of a provisionally enrolled student every 30 days to ensure continued compliance in completing the required dose of vaccines.
The attendance clerk will notify the parent by e-mail of any non-compliance. Upon the receipt of the letter, the student will have 10 school days to receive the immunization and present proper documentation to the school nurse. A total of three letters will be sent per learner. At the end of the period specified in the third letter, if the documentation is not received on or before the due date, the student will be scheduled for a withdrawal hearing.
If a student has been withdrawn due to non-compliance of immunizations, they may re-enroll only after they have met the state immunization requirements and have provided the school with proper documentation.
Immunizations can be obtained from your health care provider or county immunization clinics. To find an immunization clinic near you, please review the listing below.
For information concerning the procedures by which someone may claim an exemption from immunization requirements, please visit the Department of State Health Services website at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/.
