Winfree Academy Charter School Charter Renewal Approved By Tea

On Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 the Commissioner of Education approved the Charter Renewal Application for Winfree Academy Charter Schools, solidifying its commitment to At-Promise youth until its next renewal application deadline on July 31st, 2025.

Started in 2000, the Winfree Academy Charter School network is one of the oldest Charter Schools in Texas and this is their 2nd consecutive renewal.

All Charter Schools in the state of Texas are required to apply for renewal every 10 years. The renewal process consists of a thorough review of the school and its administrative responsibilities including an assessment of the financial integrity of the school and the overall academic performance of its learners.

Charter Schools may not be renewed for various reasons including having the lowest academic performance rating and/or a poor financial performance rating in 3 of the previous 5 years.

Winfree Academy is a dropout recovery high school program that focuses their student support services and one-of-a-kind programs to aid its learners at risk of dropping out of high school. Over 93% of learners at Winfree Academy are considered “at-risk” by the state of Texas, and during this renewal process the school was reviewed under the Texas Education Agency’s alternative education accountability procedures.

“We are extremely proud to announce this renewal”, says Winfree Academy Superintendent Brandy Schott. “This wonderful news allows Winfree Academy and our amazing educators the ability to continue to provide the exemplary support and educational opportunities for thousands of At-Promise learners for many years to come.”
