OFSDP
Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP)
The Optional Flexible School Day Program has been authorized by the Texas Education Agency for a limited number of schools to offer.
OFSDP is designed to help students who for one reason or another are unable to attend school during normal school hours.
Every effort is being made by the TEA and Winfree Academy Charter Schools to facilitate keeping students in school to complete their education and graduate because the consequences of not graduating can lead to severe disadvantages later in life.
Reduced earning potential is just one of these consequences and in today’s highly competitive job market students who fail to graduate will earn thousands of dollars a year less than those who earn their high school diploma.
Winfree Academy Charter Schools has many programs to help students in difficult circumstances to graduate, OFSDP is just one of them.
The OFSDP Schedule
Your objective should be to attend 4 hours a day, should this prove difficult to achieve then you should discuss what hours you can commit to with the Dean of Students. The time you agree to spend on your studies is agreed in writing with a start and finish time each day.
Our campuses at Irving, Lewisville, Richardson & North Richland Hills operate between 7:50am and 9:10pm (so for example you could choose to attend from 4pm and 8pm this is where the flexibility comes in. You may find that attending 4 hours every day is impossible so again you can agree what hours are possible with the Dean.
Our campuses at Denton and Grapevine operate between 7:50am and 4:40pm so you should consider what hours are best for you to fit in this schedule.
Students who opt to enroll in OFSDP are also required to set up a Student Achievement For Excellence Plan (S.A.F.E.) with the Academic Guidance Counselor. The SAFE plan is designed to set specific academic or behavioral goals.
You May be Eligible
for the Optional Flexible School Day Program...
Every case is different and there are only a limited number of places available for this program at each campus.
If you consider this to be a better option to dropping out of school or perhaps you want to come back to school, you should speak to the Dean of Students at whichever campus you are able to attend. The Dean will explain what the requirements are and quickly decide with you whether you are eligible and whether OFSDP is right for you!
You know it makes sense a little effort now by gaining your high school diploma will bring substantial benefits to you later in life. OFSDP is open to all current Winfree students.
