Winfree Works
At Winfree Academy we have a program called Winfree Works that the students can earn academic credit for working while still in school earning their high school diploma. Our goal is working in partnership with local businesses to give today’s youth a chance at tomorrow. Employers who take part in our Career Preparation program benefit from a steady pool of job applicants who are motivated to work and learn in the process. These students are rewarded by the fact that they are not only working and earning a living, but also because they receive high school credit for working.

Career Coordinator
My name is John Gillespie, I am the Career Coordinator at Winfree Academy Charter Schools. I have been a general manager or owner in the bookbinding and finishing end of the printing industry for 38 years. In that time I have interviewed and hired a lot of people. I have always taken a great interest in my employees and spent a lot of time training and coaching them personally so they will have the best chance to be successful. While in business, I noticed that most young people that I hired really did not know what they wanted to do in life, or know what qualities an employer looked for in a person. These kids need help preparing them for life in the business world. It has always been a passion of mine to help teach young people to prepare for life after they graduate high school. I will help bridge the gap between education and the business world, and to help the students make that transition with knowledge and confidence. We will help the students find the career that they are best suited for, and enroll them in courses that will prepare them for their career. We will teach them to have career goals, and a plan so they have the best possible chance to succeed, and have a higher quality of life. I will work with local businesses in assisting them in partnerships, employee recruitment, job shadowing, internships, and mentoring programs. This program will be a big benefit to help the students get a good start in life.I am looking forward to working with the teachers and students, and I sincerely hope that local businesses and Winfree Academy can have a lasting partnership that will make a difference in the lives of many young people.
